The Wettest Classroom on Earth

We are just launching this amazing project. Its a project with inclusion at its heart. It is a project which will inspire every student in our schools. By our schools I mean those inspired by Kunskapsskolan’s educational approach and values. Our work is all about encouraging Students to develop Agency in their Learning  (SAIL) or in other worlds ‘Life is what you make it!’

The Wettest Classroom project will be an inspirational journey, and an outstanding
opportunity on offer to year 7 and 8 students. Mentors in year 12 and 13 will also
be selected to guide and inspire the younger students. They will sail from Liverpool to Stockholm.
The physical challenges involved with The Wettest Classroom project are  aligned to the themed courses now composed for years 7 and 8 within the  Student Agency in Learning (SAIL) curriculum. These  project-based learning themes always end in a mission that is authentic and challenging using he skills and ideas developed through  the programme. A range of business and  sporting mentors will further complement the expedition team to boost  levels of experience and provide additional guidance.

We believe that all our students are special and deserve a chance to be challenged and achieve more than anyone, including themselves thought possible. We need you to believe in them too. We need people who can only help sponsor the journey but who will stay with the students through their longer educational journey. Some of the students on our journey have too many people who come and go from their lives. We need people who will sustain their mentorship after the expedition ends.

If you think you can help do contact us. It will not just change their lives. It will enhance  yours.

One Year 8 theme within the SAIL curriculum is entitled ‘Inspiration’ and  focusses on the partnership with Extreme Classrooms. Just imagine the learning that will been sparked off on this journey from Cabot to Cook, from estuaries to fiords.  Think of the logistics that the group of students will have to manage. On the journey, working with national science centres they will perform a range of scientific experiments. And although they won’t be like Time Peake  beaming in from space they will transit their journey and experiments back to the schools in a  similar way.

From July 2018, we
will recruit potential year 7/8 students – specialist and mainstream schools
– to take part in the ‘Wettest Classroom on Earth’.
This clip explains as we sail from Liverpool to Stockholm in June 2019:

The Expedition:
• There will be at a total of 108 shipmates for the voyage expedition team (2 x yachts, 6
students per stage, 9 stages).
• Places will be available to students from across the Whole Education /SAIL network along with Kunskapsskolan Schools in  Sweden.
• All applicants will take part in an Assessment Camp.  Schools will have to provide transport to Snowdonia and tents for all participants. A Risk Assessment will be provided and available ‘for information’ to participating schools on request.
• Those selected for the expedition will be expected to take personal responsibility for some ongoing preparation, training and any required fundraising.
• The ‘Extreme Classroom’ organisation is working alongside SAIL and Kunskapsskolan(UK) towards securing sponsorship for the expedition but such funding and equipment provision is not guaranteed.
• Each selected student and staff member of the expedition team will therefore be expected to make a financial contribution.
• Schools will support their attendees via fundraising and sponsorship endeavours.
• It is proposed the expedition will take place between 23rd June – 5th August, 2019
• All students and supporting staff are expected to remain on the voyage for the duration of their ‘stage’ of the expedition.
